Worth The Wait

Location, Location, Location.

You’ve heard it before, whether while considering the pros and cons of purchasing a property, or while bingeing on an HGTV marathon. This tried and true expression holds great meaning for the past, present and future of a home and its value.

The current owners, who wish to remain private, lived locally for thirty years before finding this property. They had always dreamt of a dramatic lakefront setting, and the moment they stood on this land, they knew they had found exactly what they were looking for. Working with the talented Scott Lowell of Lowell Custom Homes, they designed their dream home. Situated on a historic cliff high on the north shore of Geneva Lake now sits a picturesque blue Hampton shingle home with a view like no other.

With five bedrooms, nine bathrooms and a sprawling 11,400 square feet of property, the home is all that a lake- front oasis should be. Upon entering the elegant main foyer, visitors find themselves below an impressive stained-glass skylight dome. The seamless architectural curves lead from one room to the next, leaving room for a plethora of cozy nooks, including a secret bookcase door that leads to a room where the owner looks forward to reading to her future grandchildren one day.

Just down the hall is the great room, which features breathtaking sky-high views of Geneva Lake. Architect Todd Cauffman captures the grandeur of a panoramic view by incorporating 24-foot ceilings. The hand scraped walnut doors, complete with radiant heating, guide the way to the kitchen. Creamy custom cabinetry accented by rich walnut trim, a hammered metal sink, a custom French imported backsplash, and yet another view of the lake create just the right touch in this spacious but cozy kitchen.

The upper level includes a stately of office for him and an extensive arts and crafts room for her. Thoughtful works of art collected from the owners’ travels personalize the space, and an adjoined kitchenette serves as a common area complete with a charming booth, where an espresso can be enjoyed for two.

Down the hall, the bedroom suites provide some rest and relaxation. Warm tones and plush fabrics accent the guest rooms. The furniture, including a pair of heart-shaped Victorian chairs, adds to the effect. With its wall-to-wall windows, the south-facing master bedroom suite features yet another stunning lake view and the resulting natural light makes the room’s coffee colored walls glow like a dream.

A few steps further, the master bathroom awaits. Previously featured in Better Homes & Gardens Magazine, Bath Edition, this impressive retreat beckons for some personal pamper time. Tranquility takes over as sailboats race in the distance. The impressive millwork creates expansive arched ceilings painted to mimic the blue sky, expertly contrasting with three sophisticated wrought iron chandeliers. A simple earth toned ceramic shower, spacious spa bathtub, chic vanity and a sweet little balcony would make any girl feel like a princess in this bathroom palace.

Once rested, head downstairs and join the party. Inspired by a nautical theme, the lower level is rendered in navy blues and crisp whites mixed with opulent wood doors and accents. Enjoy outdoor access and lake vistas here with a libation from the bar. The Foosball table is ready to go and an array of clubs is lined up next to the golf simulator. After some friendly competition, delight in the custom-made ticket booth which playfully doubles as a door into the private theatre.

Taking in the great outdoors is easy on 1.65 acres and 140 feet of lake frontage, featuring numerous gardens, a tennis court, a putting green and of course a private pier.

After decades of appreciating Geneva Lake and the surrounding area, the owners of this property knew when they had found the location they had been looking for. Highlighting the stunning views was a must and enlisting a knowledgeable team of local vendors ensured their dream home would celebrate the very essence of living on the lake. Through skillful design and personal touches, this home uniquely celebrates its past and present.
